[Class 118 (ii)] [Also in Groups XIX and XL (c)] In ship-borne navigating apparatus means are provided for optically superimposing the indication of an echo sounder upon a cathoderay tube radar display. The radar display (see Group XL (c)) is optically superimposed upon the chart 3 by means of the partially silvered mirrors 4 and 5 and is viewed through the plain glass screen 7. Upon closing the switch 18, the echo-sounding apparatus is actuated. The glass disc 11, around the edge of which, lying in the light path from the lamp 8 to the glass screen 14, are marked figures measuring the depth in fathoms, rotates at a constant speed, and includes means to initiate the transmission of a sounding pulse when the zero indication interrupts the light path. The reception of the echo pulse causes the lamp to flash to project an image of a figure which is reflected by the prism 13 and thus is seen superimposed, together with the radar display, upon the chart 3.
