PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information processing apparatus which extracts a query of which a retrieval frequency has surged and is capable of extracting and presenting a reason why the retrieval frequency has surged, along with the query. SOLUTION: A burst reason extraction apparatus 100 includes: an event information DB 1033 for storing event information that indicates reasons for surges in retrieval frequencies of past burst queries being retrieval queries of which the retrieval frequency has surged, in association with combinations of first co-occurrence queries which are queries having been input at the same time with the past burst queries; a co-occurrence query extraction section 107 for extracting a burst query being a retrieval query of which the retrieval frequency has newly risen and a combination of second co-occurrence queries having been input at the same time with the burst query from search logs; a similar query determination section 109 for determining a combination of the first co-occurrence queries that is similar to the extracted combination of second co-occurrence queries from the event information DB 1033; and an event information extraction section 113 for extracting event information corresponding to the determined combination of the first co-occurrence queries from the event information DB 1033.
