PURPOSE: A solvent extraction method for separating zirconium and hafnium can enhance the isolation degree of two metals to simply and economically separate zirconium and hafnium and to raise a zirconium recovery rate. CONSTITUTION: A separation method of hafnium (Hf) and zirconium (Zr) comprises the steps of: adding nitric acid to an aqueous solution including zirconium and hafnium, adding hypophosphite (H_2PO_2^-) ion to the aqueous solution including zirconium (Zr) and hafnium (Hf), and adding an extraction agent to the aqueous solution for extracting zirconium with a solvent. The concentration of nitric acid in the aqueous solution is 8-10 mol/L. The hypophosphite ion is added 1.2-2 times the total content mole ratio of hafnium and zirconium of the aqueous solution. |
