A method, apparatus and computer program product have been provided to facilitate the sharing of a task across multiple co-operating communication devices. This includes determining current capabilities and causing a local application to be launched based on these capabilities, state information for a plurality of communication devices in companionship mode and state information for a user. The local application is configured to perform at least a portion of a task.
