The processing machine (10) has a stop element that is adjusted on a column (12) in axial direction, and is fixed by a clamping lever in a predetermined operating position. A complete machine head (24) is arranged at a bearing bridge (18) as an implement (22). A drive motor with gear box and a tool receiver (28) are incorporated in housing (26). A brake device is formed in an uncontrolled sliding down of stop element in axial direction of column. The brake device is acted in released state of stop element, due to the dead weight of bearing bridge and implement. The processing machine has a bearing bridge that is displaceably supported in axial direction of column. The bearing bridge is pressurized by a return spring (44) arranged in the range between the bearing bridge and an associated stop element.
