PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of improving image quality.SOLUTION: A toner concentration detection method includes: a step of, with respect to multiple diffuse reflective plates, using a known amount of received light when receiving the light reflected by the diffuse reflective plates and a known amount of received light when receiving the light reflected by a plane mirror to obtain a calculation value of the amount of light received by each light receiving part when an irradiation object falls under rectangular patterns p1 to p5 (step S415); a step of identifying a diffuse reflective plate with a minimum difference from an actually-measured value (step S417); a step of using a factor α and a factor &bgr; at the identified diffuse reflective plate to separate the amount of light received by each light receiving part when the irradiation object falls under the rectangular patterns p1 to p5 into the received amount of specular reflection light and the received amount of diffuse reflective light (step S419); and a step of obtaining toner concentration of each rectangular pattern (step S421). |
