PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a distance calculating device and a distance calculating method, capable of measuring a distance equal to or less than parallax resolution of a stereo camera and precisely measuring a relative distance to an object, for example, even when a raindrop or a mud, etc., is adhered to a camera and an image pickup state is deteriorated.SOLUTION: A distance calculating device comprises: a simple eye estimation distance calculating part 203 for calculating a distance to an object on the basis of image information picked up by each camera; a stereo distance calculating part 204 for calculating distances to the object on the basis of image information picked up by two cameras; a blur amount calculating part 201 for calculating a blur amount of the image information picked up by each camera; a distance estimating part 202 for estimating a distance to the object when the two cameras picks up images; and an output distance calculating part 206 for calculating an output distance to the object. The output distance calculating part 206 selects either a distance calculated by the simple eye distance calculating part 203 or a distance calculated by the stereo distance calculating part 204 as the output distance on the basis of the blur amount and the estimated distance. |
