A method for manufacturing a long obliquely stretched film has a obliquely stretching step and a tension applying step. The obliquely stretching step stretches a long film in a direction oblique to the width direction to form a stretched film (F). The tension applying step pulls the stretched film (F) in the longitudinal direction and simultaneously applies tension, which acts in the pulling direction, to the stretched film (F). In the tension applying step, the stretched film (F) is pulled while the tension acting in the direction in which the stretched film (F) is pulled is changed in the width direction.
