PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide compositions and methods for detecting activation states of components of signal transduction pathways in tumor cells.SOLUTION: The method includes incubating a cellular extract with a plurality of beads specific for an extracellular domain (ECD) binding region of a full-length receptor, and is used to detect presence of a truncated receptor, where the truncated receptor is p95ErbB2 and the full-length receptor is ErbB2 (HER-2). Information on the activation states of components of signal transduction pathways can be used for cancer diagnosis and prognosis and for designing cancer treatments.
