The device (1) has a cam (2) comprising a rotation axis (3) adapted to perform a rotational movement of the cam. The cam comprises a cam groove (4) defined between an outer wall (5) and an inner wall (6). An end of the cam comprises a cam follower (9) slidable in the groove. A deformable element i.e. flexible arm (10), is pressed by a segment in an end position (7) of the groove during the rotation of the cam. The cam is provided with an opening (14) in the segment in the end position for automatically receiving and engaging the follower in the cam by restoring force of the element. The cam is linear cam or conical cam. An independent claim is also included for a method for mounting a cam follower in a cam of a cam device.
