PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrification device which prevents generation of image noise in the shape of a lateral black band without stopping a voltage application to electrification member regardless of an excess current which is generated at a minute pinhole on an image carrier in a short time and which causes no problem for the image.SOLUTION: An electrification device includes: an electrification member 3 (Y, M, C and K) which comes in contact with an image carrier 2 (Y, M, C and K) which rotationally moves; an electric power source 201 for applying a voltage to the electrification member; excess current detecting means 206 for detecting an excess current, which is not a canonical current, generated when a voltage is applied at the electric power source; and a control part 202 having a function of stopping, when an excess current is detected at the excess current detection means, the applied voltage. The control part stops the applied voltage only when an excess current of a predetermined time or longer is applied, and T=H/photoreceptor speed (mm/s) is established where T(s) represents a predetermined time spent for stopping the applied voltage, and H represents a size of the pinhole causing the excess current generated at the image carrier. |
