<p>A roof structure 10 use in the construction of environmentally friendly buildings is provided. The roof structure 10, which both heats and cools a building (136, fig 2), comprises a base 14, 16, a layer of thermally stable material 24 and a heat exchanger 26 disposed within the thermally stable layer. Preferably the thermally stable material is soil or earth and is provided with a turf top layer so that the roof structure can serve as a lawn. The heat exchanger can be an earth-air or an earth-liquid heat exchanger and may be a plate heat exchanger or one or more heat exchange pipes.</p> |
