The invention relates to a method for supporting a driver of a motor vehicle (7) during a driving maneuver, comprising the following steps: (a) determining a driving path (11) in which the motor vehicle (7) moves during the performance of the driving maneuver and automatically or semi-automatically performing the driving maneuver; (b) detecting the environment of the motor vehicle (7) during the driving maneuver; (c) stopping the motor vehicle (7) if an object (15) is detected in the driving path (11) and continuing the driving maneuver as soon as the object (15) has left the driving path (11) and/or braking the motor vehicle (7) and slowly continuing the driving maneuver if an object (15) is detected outside of the driving path (11). The invention further relates to a device for performing the method.
