The method involves bending a smooth material web (1) away from curved supporting elements (5, 6) by applying force, so that lever force is generated. Partial turning down and/or piercing process is performed on the material web that is collected in a direction of travel of the web. The material web is sequentially compressed against the supporting elements arranged transverse to the direction of travel of the material web. Multidimensional structures such as calottes and/or troughs, are formed, and wall thickness in a region of bulge and/or pleat (8) remains unchanged. An independent claim is also included for a device for producing a multi-dimensional structure.
