An internal combustion engine equipped with: a primary balancer (12) that rotates in reverse with respect to the rotation of a crankshaft (4) via the crankshaft (4) and a gear drive device (11); an electric motor (14) that rotates in reverse with respect to the rotation of the crankshaft (4) via the primary balancer (12) and a belt drive device (13); an auxiliary flywheel (15) provided on the rotary shaft of the electric motor (14) via a clutch (16); and an ECU (18), having a first means, which engages or disengages the clutch (16) , thereby increasing or decreasing the effective inertial moment around the crankshaft (4) in accordance with the driving condition of the engine (1), and a second means, which power-drives or regeneratively drives the electric motor (14) in accordance with the crank angle acceleration, thereby controlling the torque transmitted to the gear drive device (11) via the belt drive device (13). Thus, vibration of the engine (1) is suppressed and gear noise due to the driving of the gears is reduced. |
