PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for effectively controlling buckling of a silica glass crucible or falling down of a sidewall part to inside the crucible.SOLUTION: This silica glass crucible 12 is provided with a sidewall part 15, a bottom part 16 and a round part 17 connecting the sidewall part 15 and the bottom part 16, where the silica glass crucible 12 has a structure of two or more layers including a bubble-containing layer 14 and a transparent layer 11; the thickness of the bubble-containing layer 14 of the sidewall part 15 is made larger than the thickness of the bubble-containing layer 14 of the round part 17, so that thermal resistance per unit area in the thickness direction of the sidewall part 15 is made larger than thermal resistance per unit area in the thickness direction of the round part 17. By virtue of this configuration, buckling of the silica glass crucible 12 or falling down of the sidewall part 15 to inside the crucible can be controlled because the sidewall part 15 or the round part 17 of the silica glass crucible 12 is prevented from excessive heating at the time point when the liquid level 24 of the silicon melt approaches the round part 17. |
