The system is designed to utilize thermal energy from a nuclear reaction pressure vessel 1 or equivalent construction that is subject to fission reaction events, such as a spent fuel pond or reprocessing facility, to heat a fission reaction suppression material for supply to the fission reaction environment. Upon activation of a two-way valve 2, thermal energy from the reactor 1 is diverted to heat exchange mechanism 4 in order to heat a main hopper 9 containing the fission suppression material. The suppression material may then be released from the hopper 9, via valve 8, for supply to the fission reaction environment. The main hopper 9 may then be replenished with fresh fission reaction suppressant material from secondary feed hoppers 11.
