PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing 1,3-propanediol in high productivity by which glycerol can be reacted in a high conversion (degree of conversion) in the reaction of the glycerol with hydrogen to provide the 1,3-propanediol in high selectivity, and in which the conversion of the glycerol can be maintained in a high level even when the reaction is continued for a long time.SOLUTION: The method for producing 1,3-propanediol includes reacting glycerol with hydrogen in the presence of a catalyst. The catalyst contains platinum carried on a solid superstrong acid, and at least one kind of metal selected from the group consisting of tin, tellurium, chromium, cobalt, lead, bismuth, zinc, cadmium and mercury. |
