A wet electrolytic capacitor that includes a sintered porous anode body 20 containing a dielectric layer, a fluid electrolyte, and a cathode; the anode body 20 comprises at least one longitudinally extending channel 28 is recessed into the anode body 20; the channel 28 may have a relatively high aspect ratio (length divided by width), such as about 2 or more, in some embodiments about 5 or more, in some embodiments from about 10 to about 200, in some embodiments from about 15 to about 150, in some embodiments from about 20 to about 100, and in some embodiments, from about 30 to about 60. Also disclosed is the above capacitor where the anode body 20 contains tantalum, niobium or an electrically conductive oxide thereof, where an anode lead wire 30 extends from the proximal end of the anode 20. Further disclosed is a method of forming the above capacitor comprising pressing a powder to form the above anode body 20; the body 20 is sintered and anodically oxidizing the body 20. |
