<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To display illumination light or a video which is bright and has a high degree of clearness and vividness as if floated in space, without using an intervening object such as a screen. <P>SOLUTION: In an illumination device, beam light 10 from a light source 8 is reflected on two-axis oscillating mirrors 5 and 6, and is two-dimensionally deflected. On the outer circumference of a rotary body 14, a rod-like display body 16 is disposed in parallel to a rotation axis thereof and is rotated. By controlling the oscillating mirrors 5 and 6, the beam light 10 traces the rotating display body 16 and is projected thereon, and is scanned in the longitudinal direction and the rotation direction thereof.
