PURPOSE: A multi-pass color image forming apparatus and a control method thereof are provided to advance the exposure timing for forming the electrostatic latent images of colors after the first color of a page when performing a continuous print or to decelerate the speed of a motor for rotating a middle transfer belt, thereby minimizing color registration errors between the developer image of the first color and the developer image of the colors after the first color. CONSTITUTION: A control unit advances the exposure timing of the color after a first color in front of the exposure timing of the first color by the control of an exposure unit, in order to adjust color registration errors between a developer image of the first color(Y) of a page and the developer images of the colors(M,C,K) after the first color, due to the change of a rotation speed of a middle transfer belt caused by the contact with a cleaning unit.
