Further the apparatus has a second illumination system (73) to provide a second radiation beam (75) at the weld (55) and a detector (77) for receiving the reflections (79) from the second radiation beam (75) and to detect the ultrasonic surface displacements at the weld (55) caused by the first radiation beam (69) from the reflection (79) of the second radiation beam (75) on the detector (77).
