<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and method for effectively preventing improper use of content. <P>SOLUTION: When performing decryption processing of encrypted content, a converted encryption key, which is converted data for an encryption key which is applied to decryption of encrypted content recorded on a medium, is read in order to perform computation processing for the converted encryption key so as to perform acquisition processing for the encryption key. The converted encryption key is a converted encryption key that is generated by performing computation on the encryption key and an electronic signature, which is configuration data for an encrypted content signature file set in accordance with the encrypted content. A playback device acquires the electronic signature, which is the configuration data for the encrypted content signature file recorded on the medium, in order to perform computation processing in which the acquired electronic signature is applied so as to perform acquisition processing for the encryption key.
