Method for preparing certificates in an automating environment

The method involves functioning a programmable controller (14) as a server (20) by a remote client unit (22), so as to retrieve data. The software having address of the server is accessed by the client unit. The server address in the accessed software is provided along with a fingerprint for authentication of a certificate of the server. The certificate is transmitted to the client unit based on retrieved address of server. The certificate is authenticated by the client unit based on available fingerprint, and successful authentication of certificate is loaded. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) computer program for providing certificate in technical automation environment; and (2) programming device.
