An method and apparatus for calibrating and/or synchronising a vehicle speedometer 25 comprising measuring wheel speed 5 and using a global position system (GPS) 20 and means to determine vehicle speed from a GPS signal, wherein a calibration module determines if measurement quality threshold conditions have been met and that the speedometer should be calibrated, and applies a calibration factor to the speedometer display based on the measured wheel speed and the vehicle speed from a GPS signal.
