The system has a specific signaling event for indicating a sequence of uncertain events to be 0 when the system considers the sequence the events in a buffer as valid, and indicating the sequence of uncertain events to be equal to 1 when the system considers the sequence of events in the buffer as invalid. A tag indicating the quality of a time stamp is set to an uncertain value when the sequence of uncertain events is equal to 1, where the system does not carry out time stamping of events until no client software is connected to the buffer.
