<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent simultaneous display of both of OSD images of an image output device and an image display device when each of the devices has an OSD image superimposing function. <P>SOLUTION: In the image display device, a display control section 210 superimposes an OSD image on a photographed image or a reproduced image according to the instruction from a CPU 201. The display control section 210 supplies only an image or an image obtained by superimposing the OSD image to a liquid crystal display 100 through an LCD 211 and an external interface 209. A display control section 107 superimposes an OSD image in accordance with the instruction from a CPU 101 on the image from an external interface 109. A camera 200 and the liquid crystal display 100 inform other parties of an OSD display state, respectively. The display control section 210 does not superimpose the OSD image when the liquid crystal display 100 superimposes the OSD image.
