PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of finishing a surface of a workpiece using laser machining.

SOLUTION: The method of finishing a surface of a workpiece includes the steps of: providing a laser beam directed in a direction perpendicular to the surface; and focusing the laser beam on the surface or adjacently to the surface so that an energetic density of the laser beam is controlled to be sufficient to remove a projection projecting from the surface without removing a material that is not intended to be removed from the surface.
