The machine (20) has a housing (21) providing a washing chamber (1), which is accessed via a housing opening (22). A door (2) is pivoted at a horizontal axle (4) and closes the housing opening. A workpiece retainer (5) is supported by the door on an inner side (3). The workpiece retainer together with the door is pivoted from a horizontally load position into a vertical rinsing position. The workpiece retainer projects into the washing chamber in the vertical rinsing position and retains large and small ring gears that are vertically aligned. An independent claim is also included for a method for washing ring gears for planetary gears.
