A charged particle emission device is provided to emit charged particles by irradiating an ultraviolet light-potential difference generation element, such as a pyroelectric body, with ultraviolet laser light without using a vacuum. A charged particle emission device (1) is provided with an ultraviolet light-potential difference generation element (20) that receives ultraviolet laser light and creates a potential difference and is provided with an ultraviolet light receiving surface and a charged particle emission surface (22), and an extraction electrode (13) that is provided at an interval no more than 500 mum from the charged particle emission surface (22) of the ultraviolet light-potential difference generation element (20). A ferroelectric body, in particular, a pyroelectric body, can be used as the ultraviolet light-potential difference generation element. Preferably, an ultraviolet light laser irradiates the anode surface side of the ferroelectric body. |
