The method involves receiving and isolating an automatic identification system (AIS) transponder signal from stages (S1, S2). A direction finding is carried-out after the isolation of the transponder signal such that a direction finding result is obtained by comparing with a direction resulting from position signal of the stages. A plausibility check is performed whether the direction finding result is compatible with the position signal. Correction values for the direction finding are determined from plausible deviations between the direction finding result and the stage direction. An independent claim is also included for an elucidation method.
