[Also in Division B2] An electrostatic precipitator in which gas being treated is subject to pressure fluctuation has a housing 1 containing a grid 3 to which is jointed a current-carrying and supporting rod 13 which extends through an opening in the top of the casing where it is sealed by a hood 6 dipping into oil 16 in an annular container 5 which is sealingly connected to the hood by means of an electrically insulating member 12 which defines with the hood 6, the container 5 and the surface of the oil a space 15 to which a gas above or below atmospheric pressure and inert to the gas being treated and to the oil is supplied through a duct 14 to provide a cushion above the oil so as to prevent pressure fluctuations in the gas being treated from causing variations in the oil level in the container. Inert gas is also supplied as sealing medium, via a conduit 8 and via the space 7 defined by the double wall construction of the inner wall of the container 5, to the interior of the hood above the oil level. The insulating element 12 may be flushed by liquid supplied through spray nozzles 17. Means may be provided for heating the insulating element and the gas in the space 15. |
