<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an alloy composition for a lithium ion battery. <P>SOLUTION: A lithium ion battery in accordance with an embodiment of the present invention includes an anode containing an alloy composition which contains (a) silicon, (b) aluminum, (c) a transition metal, (d) tin, (e) indium, and (f) a sixth component containing yttrium, a lanthanide element, an actinide element, or a combination thereof.
