<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surgical apparatus for resecting an affected site of a lumenal tissue outside with a remaining portion of the lumenal tissue being anastomosed with fastening means. <P>SOLUTION: A surgical method and the apparatus (12) is for resecting the tissue (210), preferably the lumenal tissue (208), with other portion of an organ being anastomosed with a staple or other fastening means, preferably endolumenally. The apparatus may be inserted via a naturally occurring body orifice or a surgical incision and then advanced using either an endoscopic or a radiological imaging guidance to an area where surgery is to be performed. Under endoscopic or diagnostic imaging guidance, the apparatus is positioned so the tissues (208, 210) to be resected is manipulated into an inner cavity of the apparatus. The apparatus then cuts the diseased tissue after stapling and retains the diseased tissue within the apparatus.
