A disposable wearing article adapted to appropriately come in close contact with the wearer's waist. A pair of side panels (70) is attached in the lateral edges (16) in the rear waist region (12) of the chassis (10). Each side panel (70) includes the elastic region (78), inner and outer non-elastic regions (79a, 79b) which are not elastically stretchable and contractible. Inner and outer non-elastic regions (79a, 79b) are formed on the opposite lateral portions of the elastic region (78) in the lateral direction (X). Compared to a dimension (Bl) in a contracted state, a dimension (B2) in the maximum stretched state of the elastic region (78) has a stretch ratio of about 10 to about 40% thereof. The tensile stress of the side panels (70) in the lateral direction (X) is to be about 1 to about 5 N/50 mm.
