A portable articulated arm coordinate measuring machine is provided having a base 116. A cover (124,fig 4) is rotatably coupled to the base to move between a closed position and an open position. A display is arranged within the cover. The display includes a screen surface (428) such as a touch sensitive screen surface, disposed on one side of the cover. The screen surface is disposed adjacent the base in the closed position and disposed on an angle to the base in the open position. A plurality of connected arm segments 106, 108 are configured to define a path of an outer periphery of travel of a supported measurement device 462, the path being separated from the display by a gap distance 464 when the display is in the open operational position. Provision of a gap distance greater than zero minimises possible impact of the probe tip (118, fig 1A) with the screen when in the open position. |
