Compounds of the general formula (R<SP>1</SP> = H, C 1-5 alkyl; R<SP>2</SP> = H, C 1-5 alkyl or alkoxy, carbalkoxy, biscarbalkoxymethyl; R<SP>3</SP> = H, halogen, NO 2 , CF 3 , C 1-5 alkyl; R<SP>6</SP> =α-alkenyl,α-cycloalkenyl) are prepared by monohalogenating a compound of the formula (R<SP>4</SP>=H, C 1-5 alkyl and R<SP>5</SP> = C 1-5 alkyl or -CHR<SP>4</SP>R<SP>5</SP>=cycloalkyl, the group -CHR<SP>4</SP>R<SP>5</SP> in each case having at least one hydrogen atom in the 2-position) with an N-halo derivative of a carboxamide, sulphonamide or imide of a polycarboxylic acid and heating the resulting 5-(α- haloalkyl) or (α-halocycloalkyl) derivative with a dehydrohalogenating agent.
