<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical module which can restrict increase in a bias current supplied to a light-emitting element such as a semiconductor laser at the time of high temperature. <P>SOLUTION: The optical module comprises a plurality of laser diodes and a waveguide type multiplexer. The laser diodes have such a characteristic that the threshold and slope efficiency of a bias current vary when the element temperature changes (A). The waveguide type multiplexer has spectral characteristics which have a transmission center wavelength matched to an oscillation wavelength λ<SB POS="POST">1</SB>' at the time of high temperature within a control temperature range (B). For this reason, assuming that optical output to the outside is at constant level, and given the fact that optical loss is minimized by the spectral characteristic of the waveguide type multiplexer at high temperature time, a bias current at high temperature time can be set to a value lower (by ΔIh) than at normal time (C). <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
