<p>Column, esp. for desulphurisation of oils or fractions using a sulphur resistant catalyst, has gas bubbled through, esp hydrogen, which contributes to the reaction, and both the liquid and the gas are continuously recycled. The column has an enclosed outer cylinder and an inner cylinder extending to the bottom and to a point near the top. A little below the rim of the inner cylinder a perforated top bulkhead encloses an annular catalyst zone limited at a point above the flow by a second perforated bulkhead. Fresh and recirculated liquid are fed from below to the outer zone and gas, both fresh, and recirculated through the central zone. Product is extracted from the centre zone.</p> |
