In image signal decoding methods and apparatus, position information of a virtual macroblock pair is derived, and position information of a reference frame macroblock pair is derived based on the position information of the virtual macroblock pair. The virtual macroblock pair corresponds to a field macroblock pair of an enhanced layer, and the reference frame macroblock pair is in a base layer. Motion information of the field macroblock pair is predicted from motion information of the reference frame macroblock pair according to the position information of the reference frame macroblock pair. The field macroblock pair is decoded using the motion information of the field macroblock pair. The motion information of the field macroblock pair and the reference frame macroblock pair includes a reference index and a motion index, the field macroblock pair is two vertically adjacent field macroblocks, and the reference frame macroblock pair is two vertically adjacent frame macroblocks. |
