PURPOSE: A 3D liquid crystal display device and a driving method thereof are provided to improve brightness in a 2D mode by preventing a main pixel and a sub pixel in pixel areas. CONSTITUTION: A liquid crystal panel(2) displays 2D or 3D images. A main pixel and a sub pixel are formed in R,G, and B pixel regions. A data driver(4) supplies an image signal to data lines. A gate driver(6) controls a plurality of thin film transistors by driving gate lines. A timing controller(8) arranges image data according to 2D or 3D modes and supplies the arranged image data to the data driver. The timing controller generates a gate control signal and a data control signal according to 2D or 3D mode and controls the data driver and the gate driver respectively.
