PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve a reduction in driving voltage and an improvement in emission life.

SOLUTION: An organic electroluminescent element comprises: an anode 107; a cathode 105; and an organic layer 106 composed of one or a plurality of layers including at least a light-emitting layer. The organic layer 106 is disposed between the anode 107 and the cathode 105. At least one layer of the organic layer 106 contains a specific hexadentate coordination type iridium ortho-metal complex.
