PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light water reactor core and a fuel assembly, which allow for increasing nuclear nonproliferation resistance without violating safety constraints for higher burnup, and for multiple recycling of transuranic nuclides for reduction in usage thereof.
SOLUTION: Boiled Water Reactor (BWR) core flow is controlled to be at a predefined flow rate determined from a characteristic curve shown in Figure 2 depending on Pu-239 content in transuranic nuclides (TRU) contained in a new fuel assembly loaded into a core. The core flow is kept at the predefined flow rate throughout each operating cycle of the BWR. As such, the relative abundance of a plurality of isotopes in the TRU contained in the fuel assembly taken out from the BWR core as a spent fuel assembly is substantially the same as the relative abundance of the isotopes in the TRU contained in the same fuel assembly when it has been loaded into the BWR core as a new fuel assembly. The percentage of Pu-239 to total Pu contained in a new fuel assembly shall be within the range of 3% or more and less than 40%, and the percentage of Pu-240 to total Pu shall be within the range of 35 to 45%.
COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
