<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mold clamping device which is short in machine length, simple in structure, low in energy loss and enabled in mold clamping at a high speed. <P>SOLUTION: A mold clamping device (3) is composed of a fixed platen (9) fitted with a fixed mold (8), a movable platen (11) fitted with a movable mold (10), four tie bars (13) connecting the platens and a clamping force generating mechanism (20) to generate a clamping force. The clamping force generating mechanism (20) is composed of a deformable member (22) formed of a super magnetostrictive material and a coil (25) and installed to each of the tie bars (13). The mold clamping force is obtained by the elastic deformation of each of the tie bars (13) caused by the deformation of a deformable member (22) when the coil (25) generates a magnetic field while keeping a mold-closed state by a locking mechanism (18). <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
