PURPOSE: A fuel and raw material transferring apparatus and a control method thereof is provided to prevent a loss of a fuel and raw material regardless of amount of the material by varying a cross sectional area of a hopper depending on amount of the fuel or raw material dropped into the hopper and by placing the fuel or raw material in the center of a conveyor. CONSTITUTION: A fuel and raw material transferring apparatus comprises a hopper(12), a guide panel(20), a driving unit(40), a distance sensor, a vibration sensor, and a control unit. The fuel and raw material transferring apparatus passes through an input hole(14a) and a discharge hole(16a).The guide panel is movably installed in the hopper. The driving unit controls a gap between a guide panel and the hopper. The distance sensor senses the gap between the hopper and the guide panel. The vibration sensor senses vibration generated from the guide panel. The control unit determines a discharge direction of the fuel and raw material passed through the hopper according to a sensing signal received from the distance sensor and the vibration sensor. The control unit transmits an operating signal to the driving unit.
