摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal device in which liquid crystal molecules can be appropriately aligned in spite of the existence of level difference of a foundation at the time of forming an alignment film, a projection display device, and a method of manufacturing the liquid crystal device. <P>SOLUTION: When a first alignment film 16 is formed in a manufacturing process of the liquid crystal device, an alignment film forming material is vapor-deposited from a direction inclined to a normal direction L of one surface 10s of a first substrate 10 to form a columnar structure layer 37 comprising columnar structures 36 inclined to the normal direction L. Vapor-deposition is performed three times, and an azimuth of the inclination direction at the time of vapor-deposition is made different among three times of vapor-deposition to sequentially form a first columnar structure layer 161, a second columnar structure layer 162, and a third columnar structure layer 163.
