<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for hermetically sealing a valve stem capable of circumventing the problem of a valve stem seal detaching from a valve stem guide. <P>SOLUTION: In the valve stem seal device in which a valve stem seal provided with a cylindrical metal ring held on the outer periphery of a valve stem guide, and a seal lip integrally formed on one end side of the metal ring and made of a rubbery elastic material that slides with the valve stem in an airtight manner is fixed to the valve stem guide, the device is provided with a stop ring that is fitted into and held between the cylindrical inner peripheral surface of the metal ring and a circular-truncated-cone-shaped surface increasing in diameter toward the seal lip side formed on the outer peripheral surface of the valve stem guide.
