The invention relates to a system (SA) for assisting a driver of a vehicle (V), which includes a communication network (RC) which carries values of the parameters of the vehicle (V), including at least: i) an acquisition means (MA2) capable of acquiring and transmitting groups of image data that are representative of intermediate images acquired at successive instants in an acquisition area (ZA) partially surrounding the vehicle (V) and making up a portion of a selected area (ZE); ii) a processing means (MT) arranged such as to build a representation of a computer-generated image (IZ) in a selected view of the selected area (ZE) using the transmitted groups of image data and the values in transit of at least one of the parameters of the vehicle (V); and iii) a display means (MF) arranged such as to transform the representation of the computer-generated image (IZ) into a displayable image and to display at least one portion thereof. At least one of the processing means (MT) and display means (MF) is remote in a communicating terminal (TC) which is installed provisionally in the vehicle (V) and is capable of establishing communication with at least one of the other non-remote means of the system (SD).
