Disclosed are a method and system for processing a physical control format indicator channel (PCFICH), both of which can select at least one of the following manners: introducing an R-PCFICH for an out-of-band relay or a terminal of a higher version; or executing optimization and enhancement based on an existing PCFICH; or determining to execute semi-static notification using high-layer signaling; and notifying a relay node of the value of CFI using the selected manner. The method and the system of the present invention effectively solve the problem of shortage of downlink control channel resources of an out-of-band mobile relay node in a high-speed moving scenario, and are applicable to an out-of-band relay node or a terminal of a higher version, thereby guaranteeing abundant available resources at the downlink control channel of an out-of-band relay node or a terminal of a higher version and the flexibility of changes of each subframe, so as to further improve the transmission efficiency of the whole communication system.
