An electrochemical device is provided to improve safety without the deterioration of electrochemical characteristics by using a compound of an olivine structure and an ionic liquid having excellent flame retardancy and ion conductivity. An electrochemical device comprises a positive electrode which uses a compound of an olivine structure as a positive electrode active material; a negative electrode; an electrolyte solution which contains an ionic liquid; and a separator. Preferably the compound of an olivine structure is a compound represented by LiMPO4, wherein M is at least one selected from a transition metal. More preferably the compound of an olivine structure is at least one selected from the group consisting of LiMnPO4, LiFePO4, LiCoPO4, LiNiPO4, LiCuPO4, LiScPO4, LiVPO4, LiCrPO4, and LiTiPO4. |
